Spring Break
1 motorbike, 2 women, 5 beaches, and 475 kilometers all packed into one Songkran week. After flying into Surat Thani from Khon Kaen, Liat and I picked up a motorbike from X Motorbike Rentals and headed west on 401 to Khao Sok National Park. From there, we traveled to the west coast, ferrying to Ko Koh Khao, an island ravaged by the 2004 tsunami. On the island, we sensed the devastation: skeletons of government buildings and abandoned property symbolized, over 12 years later, the loss of 50% of the population and displacement of even more. Next, we cut south to Khao Lak before doubling back on our route returning to the Khao Sok area to spend the day at Rajjaprabha Dam reservoir (Cheow Lan Lake). We then hauled back east on 401 through Surat Thani and embarked on a 3-hour ferry to Koh Phangan where we relaxed for the remainder of the week, visiting beaches such as Haad Mae Haad, Haad Thong Lang, Haad Khuat (Bottle Beach), and Haad Thong Nai Pan Noi.
